Tested the package at noble-proposed:

- Installed Noble in a VM and updated everything (but not from noble-proposed)
- Created two files in the desktop called "a" and "b"
- Enabled the "Keep sorted by group" option
- All the icons disappeared
- Disabled the "Keep sorted by group" option. The icons still didn't appear.
- Installed gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons-ng from noble-proposed
- Closed the session
- Entered again; the desktop icons did appear
- Enabled the "Keep sorted by group" option. The expected group did appear, and
clicking on it expanded it and shown the "a" and "b" files, as expected
- Disabled the "Keep sorted by group" option. The group disappeared as
expected, and the files "a" and "b" appeared, as expected too

So I consider that the package in noble-proposed fixes this bug.
