The kerneldir option (in configure.ac) seems to "look for OpenIPMI header 
files". concretely it adds (-I) the kernel include directory to CFLAGS, nothing 
more.
Does the build without the kerneldir-include work? If yes, I'd say removing it 
is fine.

What about our previous suspicions that std=gnu11 vs c11 could fix this?
