The memory safety issues have been open for eleven months, most without any engagement from upstream or a community. The reporter even gave very short and sweet reproducers. Some of the ones that were addressed were nice and quick, others were a month or more. It appears to be on a downward trend.
If we're going to switch to this library, these will become our issues. I propose the requesting team(s?) should prepare and propose patches for these issues and we can see how the interactions go.
