Public bug reported:
### **Summary**
After upgrading to kernel `6.17.0-7-generic` (on Ubuntu 25.10), the I²C
HID touchpad on an MSI GS66 12UGS fails with continuous:
```
i2c_designware i2c_designware.0: controller timed out
i2c_hid_acpi I2C-PNP0C50:00: failed to set a report to device: -110
```
This results in the touchpad freezing on Wayland.
### **Hardware**
* MSI Stealth GS66 12UGS
* Touchpad ACPI node: `PNP0C50:00`
* BIOS version: E16V5IFB.10A
### **Regression**
This issue started after upgrading from previous kernel version.
Earlier kernels did not have this issue. Up until a few days ago I haven't had
any hardware problems on Ubuntu 25.10 or Ubuntu 25.04.
### **What I tried**
* Unloading HID modules:
```
sudo modprobe -r i2c_hid_acpi i2c_hid hid_multitouch
sudo modprobe i2c_hid_acpi
```
* Unloading designware:
```
sudo modprobe -r i2c_designware_platform i2c_designware_core
modprobe: FATAL: Module i2c_designware_platform is builtin.
```
→ module is built-in; cannot unload
### **Expected behavior**
Touchpad should not freeze.
### **Actual behavior**
Touchpad becomes unusable until system restarted.

### **Expected behavior**
- I2C controller should not enter a persistent timeout state.

### **Actual behavior**
- Controller enters a permanent timeout loop and the touchpad becomes unusable

- Warm reboot does *not* fix the issue.
+ Touchpad becomes unusable until system restarted.
