Am happy to report that CUPS was updated in the early AM of Dec. 5 in my Linux Mint 22.2 Cinnamon to 2.4.7-1ubuntu7.9 and printing now works.
THANK YOU to all involved -for problem definition, debugging, helpful suggestions on workaround and the ultimate solution. This includes here and in the Linux Mint and GitHub threads referenced above, contributors and lurkers alike! As a community we are strong! I have one HP 2800 printer connected via WiFi to my Router to which my computer is wired. The [email protected] applet shows 3 printers as does the print dialog: DeskJet_2800 HP-DeskJet_2800_series_2214B8 [email protected] However the last one does not print. Not a problem - just an observation. Comments would be welcome.
