Public bug reported:
I am on a Dell Latitude 5450 with Synaptics I²C HID touchpad (VEN_06CB)
BIOS version: 1.18.1
Running Ubuntu 24.04 with HWE kernel series
#regression summary
On kernel 6.14.0-35-generic: suspend/resume works, touchpad works
normally
On kernel 6.14.0-36-generic:
intermittently after resume, touchpad disappears from input subsystem
sometimes partially reappears but without any event handlers
requires full power cycle or EC reset to recover
This is a regression introduced between 6.14.0-35 and 6.14.0-36.
#symptoms
On kernel 6.14.0-36:
Touchpad completely disappears from /proc/bus/input/devices
ACPI enumerates device i2c-VEN_06CB:00 but no driver binds automatically
Manual unbind/bind causes a sysfs node to reappear but without
Handlers=eventX
runtime_status stays unsupported and no IRQ events fire
Touchpad does not generate any input events via libinput debug-events
Only a cold boot restores operation
#Steps to reproduce
-Boot kernel 6.14.0-36
-Log in normally
-Close lid or run systemctl suspend
-wait multiple hours (was not tested on short suspends)
-Resume
- Observe touchpad no longer functions, not listed in input devices
# Expected behavior
Touchpad resumes normally as it does on kernel 6.14.0-35.
