Public bug reported:

Hello,

I am reporting a regression/missing package issue for the Synaptics
Metallica fingerprint sensor (ID 06cb:009a) on a Lenovo ThinkPad X280.

Current Environment:
- OS: Linux Mint Noble (Ubuntu 24.04 base)
- Hardware: Synaptics, Inc. Metallica MIS Touch Fingerprint Reader (06cb:009a)
- Device Serial: 9f0a948654ce

Problem Description:
The required TOD driver (libfprint-2-tod1-synaptics) is missing from the
official repositories for the 'noble' release. Attempts to install or download
the package result in "404 Not Found" errors from both the Ubuntu universe and
Dell mirrors.

Technical findings:
1. The device is correctly identified by the kernel and lsusb (06cb:009a).
2. The fprintd service is installed but returns "No devices available" because
the specific TOD binary for this chip is not present.
3. Repositories for 'noble' at mirrors.kernel.org and
dell.archive.canonical.com do not contain the libfprint-2-tod1-synaptics
package.
4. Attempting to use the 'jammy' version or generic TOD drivers fails to
initialize the sensor.

Steps to reproduce:
- Install Linux Mint Noble / Ubuntu 24.04 on a ThinkPad X280.
- Run 'sudo apt install libfprint-2-tod1-synaptics'.
- Result: E: Unable to locate package libfprint-2-tod1-synaptics.

This hardware worked in previous versions (Jammy) and is essential for
ThinkPad users. Please consider porting or fixing the package
availability for Noble.

Thank you.

** Affects: libfprint (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
