Understood. As a user, it was stressful to lose application
functionality after routine system updates. It took me a while to
troubleshoot and fix the issues. This feels like it came out of nowhere.
I look forward to better notifications and easy, per-application
exceptions.

I suggest that this kind of disruptive change needs better coordination
with app writers and clearer communication to the user. A big warning
message from apt that "this update will break some applications that use
X,Y,Z features" with a link to suggested solutions, perhaps. Or even
delay the implementation until the next release, allowing beta testers
to discover and report broken apps.

Regardless, I'm able to use my work tools again with some simple config
changes. I've shared my experience on the app forums, so hopefully
others will find the solution faster.
