On Dec 19th Fri I ran a standard graphical system update (with Ubuntu's
Software Updater) and since then the microphone gets no input.

One peculiar behaviour I noticed is that when toggling the hardware key
off/on I get audio input coming in fine for a very short time (perhaps
0.1s) and then goes quiet again.
