Public bug reported:
1) Ubuntu Release: Ubuntu 26.04 (Resolute Raccoon - development branch)
2) Package Version: vlc 3.0.22-4 (Candidate version in the repositories)
3) What I expected to happen: I expected VLC to be able to open and
authenticate RTSP network streams from IP cameras (specifically TP-Link
Tapo) using the standard live555 module.
4) What happened instead: The connection fails. Terminal logs (vlc -vvv)
show that the package was built with the following flag: --disable-
live555
As a result, VLC incorrectly falls back to the satip and realrtsp
modules, which are incompatible with the camera's authentication and
stream format, leading to the error: satip stream error: Failed to setup
RTSP session.
Technical Evidence:
Command vlc --list | grep live555 returns no results, proving the module
is missing from the .deb build.
The VLC Snap version works perfectly on the same hardware, confirming it
is a build configuration issue in the .deb package.
The system confirms the RTSP engine was explicitly disabled: configured
with: ... '--disable-live555' ....
** Affects: vlc (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
