Public bug reported:

Source package: eog (Eye of GNOME)

Ubuntu release:
Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (noble)

Package version:
eog 45.3-1ubuntu2

What you expected to happen:
When navigating images with the arrow keys, the viewer should respect the "Last
Modified" sort order from Nautilus.

What happened instead:
The viewer always navigates in alphabetical order, ignoring the file manager's
sort setting.

Steps to reproduce:

Open a folder in Nautilus and sort files by "Last Modified".

Open the first image using the default viewer (EOG).

Press the right arrow key to go to the next image.

System info:

Architecture: x86_64

Desktop environment: GNOME

Kernel: 6.14.0-37-generic

Date of issue: Jan 4, 2026

Suggested improvement:
EOG should inherit the sort order from Nautilus or allow users to configure
navigation order explicitly.
