Ok, I found that fc-cache has a fixed sleep of two seconds at the end,
to ensure that timestamps in old filesystems (like FAT) are consistent

cache/fc-cache.c?ref_type=heads#L425 Without it, the cache regeneration
needs only about half a second.

I prepared a patch to allow to bypass that sleep

I'll try to include it in our packages and use it in the fonts script to
make use of it.
