Hi Jeremy, Obviously there is no clear "right" decision, keeping it makes dependencies happy and keeps the ease of use. And removing them helps to avoid mis-perceiving something as deeply maintained. Both have their pro's and cons in detail.
I re-discussed this and the other two recent cases with several other archive admins today. The rough consensus is that we'd only remove it if it blocks something else or if it was also removed from Debian. Otherwise the service to our users is better in at least having it, despite not being the newest. In summer 2025 the same was discussed on a different case. I was reminded (=I forgot but others remembered :-/) that I even went for documenting this a bit better (https://github.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-project- docs/pull/126/files) which led to today's form of https://documentation.ubuntu.com/project/maintainers/AA/aa-package- removal/#summarized-flow-of-a-removal-consideration which again matches what was said today. --- In this particular case I guess we'd follow Debian, but the discussion in the bug deteriorated :-/ so I do not expect that to resolve soon. I've merged the other two related cases which are wordpress/mediawiki, yet again here 'If it works fine, and all it is violating is “being old” -> keep it.' applies.
