Public bug reported:
Description:
After a clean shutdown, the system immediately powers back on within 1-2
seconds. The shutdown sequence completes normally (journal shows "System Power
Off" and "Journal stopped"), but the hardware restarts on its own.
Hardware:
Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 5 (Intel) - Model 21G2002BUS
CPU: Intel Core Ultra 7 155H (Meteor Lake)
BIOS: R2DET40W (1.25) - latest available
GPU: Intel Arc Graphics (using prime-select intel)
Software:
Ubuntu Studio 24.04.3 LTS
Tested on both 6.8.0-90-lowlatency and 6.14.0-37-generic kernels - same behavior
Key observation:
Windows 11 (dual boot) shuts down and stays off
Linux shutdown completes cleanly per journalctl, then hardware restarts
Troubleshooting attempted (none resolved the issue):
Disabled all ACPI wakeup sources via /proc/acpi/wakeup
Embedded Controller reset (30-second power button hold)
Kernel parameters: acpi=force, reboot=acpi, reboot=efi
Blacklisted mei_me module
Disabled TLP power management
Disabled "USB Always On" and all wake options in BIOS
Downgraded linux-firmware from 0ubuntu2.22 to 0ubuntu2.21
Removed xfce4-session package
systemctl poweroff --force (still restarts)
systemctl halt --force --force (hangs, stays off only after holding power
button)
Journal excerpt (last lines before restart):
systemd[1]: Reached target poweroff.target - System Power Off.
systemd[1]: Shutting down.
systemd-shutdown[1]: Syncing filesystems and block devices.
