Unfortunately, this bug won't be fixed in GTK or something like that.
There's a new clipboard manager specification which can be found here :
http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/ClipboardManager . All programs that
doesn't comply with this specification will have that little bug. You
can already look at gedit and inkscape and you'll see that they don't
suffer of that bug. The best we should do about that issue is to spread
the word.

I'll start to do this job with common ubuntu programs. You can
contribute to this task by finding programs that still have this bug in
their latest version ( in Hardy ) and make sure that these programs does
have a bug in their upstream bug tracking system which contains
sufficient informations for developers. Don't forget to give this link
in reference to the new specification :
http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/ClipboardManager .
