Thanks for the reply, but please clarify:  When I say that, no, I do not
have an /etc/apt/preferences file, do you believe that implies that some
steps were not completed?

While it seems to be working fine, I'd hate to have some instability to my
system and not know it.  If that were the case, I would prefer to make a
fresh Dapper install.  If you can let me know any other indicators that I
might look for, please do.
