Uff, this is really an annoying bug that makes the gutsy version of
balsa ABSOLUTELY hopless for imap purposes. I have tried to solve the
problem in the following ways:
First, I removed balsa noticing that 4-5 other packets were removed too.
Then I reinstalled these packets.
1. Debian testing version
I downloaded debian testing version and dpkg -i it. It was even WORSE cracking
due to imap reading problems.
2. Source code installation
I downloaded the source to balsa-2.3.22 from balsa.gnome.org. After some
library installations, I ended with the following error:
./configure --enable-all
checking pspell/pspell.h usability... no
checking pspell/pspell.h presence... no
checking for pspell/pspell.h... no
configure: error: ** aspell/pspell library found but not related header files.
This probably means corresponding aspell-devel package is not installed
dpkg -l | grep aspell
ii aspell 0.60.5-1ubuntu1
GNU Aspell spell-checker
ii aspell-da 1.4.60-1
The Comprehensive Danish Dictionary (DSDO) -
ii aspell-en 6.0-0-5.1
English dictionary for GNU Aspell
ii libaspell-dev 0.60.5-1ubuntu1
Development files for applications with GNU
ii libaspell15 0.60.5-1ubuntu1
GNU Aspell spell-checker runtime library
As far as I could see, I have the aspell libraries installed. ... Well,
now my patience and time was spent. I thought: Forget it!
3. Feisty version
I gave balsa a last chance: I installed the feisty version:
balsa_2.3.13-2ubuntu1_i386.deb. It works nice. Imap - no problem.
Conclusion:
If you do something with imap (tls perhaps), keep clear of:
balsa_2.3.17-1ubuntu2_i386.deb
balsa_2.3.20-1_i386.deb (this is perhaps not fair to conclude since it is
compiled in another environment)
At least on my laptop, they are VERY unstable.
Stick to the feisty version: balsa_2.3.13-2ubuntu1_i386.deb
