Hello. I know this is an old post, but this is relevant to my current
problem.
I installed Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS on my Lenovo laptop, but I'm having
trouble with the internal microphone. The microphone works, but the
voice input is slow. Additionally, when I checked the microphone using
Audacity, I found that the audio only works in the right speaker. You
can see this in the image audacity-screenshoot.png. I checked the
speakers, and both are working well. The only problem is the microphone.
This is the system details of my laptop:
Operating System: Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS
Kernel: Linux 6.14.0-37-generic
Architecture: x86-64
Hardware Vendor: Lenovo
Hardware Model: IdeaPad 5 14ALC05
Firmware Version: G5CN70WW(V2.16)
Processor: AMD Ryzen™ 5 5500U with Radeon™ Graphics × 12
GPU: AMD Radeon™ Graphics
I have been looking for a solution, but nothing works. Here's what I
tried so far:
1. From: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Lenovo_IdeaPad_5_14are05
Add snd_rn_pci_acp3x.dmic_acpi_check=1 to /etc/default/grub. I changed the
parameters to like this: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash
snd_rn_pci_acp3x.dmic_acpi_check=1"
2. From:
https://github.com/thesofproject/linux/issues/2460#issuecomment-779212719
Add sof-hda-generic-2ch-pdm1.tplg
3. From: https://gist.github.com/Therises/d2e91c81af1574f9069635d520fdc7ec
Change Element Internal Mic Boost, Element Int Mic Boost, Element Mic Boost
4. From: https://candid.technology/ubuntu-microphone-not-working/
Change the input channel in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf according to this
tutorial
5. Change the kernel version
6. Increase the mic boost level in alsamixer
So far, I have only installed pavucontrol and increased the input dB to
make it louder. However, the problem has not been solved because the
audio only works on the right speaker after recording.
I've found an Arch forum that discussed exactly the issue I'm facing with
ALC257. https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=2056452.
The solution in the thread was to enable snd_pci_acp6x driver and its DMIC
support to the kernel config.
I also have found this an article,
https://jiangsc.me/2023/06/03/thinkpad-neo-14-issue-fix/
The suggested solution is to modify the source kernel code directly.
I'm new to Linux environments and have never done anything like this before.
Could someone please tell me how to do it or suggest other ideas to try?
