+ Intel ipu7-drivers tag release
+
[20251104_0740_359](https://github.com/intel/ipu7-drivers/releases/tag/20251104_0740_359)
+ introduced an ABI breakage in the firmware command response and depends
+ on the corresponding update in the firmware blob being loaded. Or, error
+ messages dumped in dmesg output whenever trying to start webcam video
+ streaming on Intel Panther Lake platforms with CVS firmware >= 1.12:
+
+ ```
+ [ 75.466561] intel_ipu7_isys.isys intel_ipu7.isys.40: stream start time out
+ [ 75.466742] intel_ipu7_isys.isys intel_ipu7.isys.40: 00
IPU_INSYS_RESP_TYPE_STREAM_OPEN_DONE stream 0 pin 0 buf_id 0 frame 0
+ [ 75.466758] intel_ipu7_isys.isys intel_ipu7.isys.40: error group 1 code 6
details [5 0]
+ [ 77.514368] intel_ipu7_isys.isys intel_ipu7.isys.40: stream close time out
with error 6
+ [ 77.514395] intel_ipu7_isys.isys intel_ipu7.isys.40: start stream of
firmware failed
+ ```
+
+ This ABI break, however, is like a temporary work-around and shall be
+ updated later in
+
[20251226_1140_191_PTL_PV_IoT](https://github.com/intel/ipu7-drivers/releases/tag/20251226_1140_191_PTL_PV_IoT)

+
[20251104_0740_359](https://github.com/intel/ipu7-drivers/releases/tag/20251104_0740_359)
+ depends on the
+ [lib/firmware/intel/ipu/ipu7ptl_fw.bin](https://github.com/intel/ipu7-camera-
+ bins/blob/20251104_0740_359/lib/firmware/intel/ipu/ipu7ptl_fw.bin) from
+ same [20251104_0740_359](https://github.com/intel/ipu7-camera-
+ bins/releases/tag/20251104_0740_359) ipu7-camera-bins tag release, and
+ ipu7-drivers tag release
+
[20251226_1140_191_PTL_PV_IoT](https://github.com/intel/ipu7-drivers/releases/tag/20251226_1140_191_PTL_PV_IoT)
+ depends on same file from same
+ [20251226_1140_191_PTL_PV_IoT](https://github.com/intel/ipu7-camera-
+ bins/releases/tag/20251226_1140_191_PTL_PV_IoT) tag from ipu7-camera-
+ bins. The latter is still under internal evaluation.
+
+ To enable affected devices based on current Ubuntu kernel/ipu7-drivers
status, backport the required firmware blob from github commit:
+ *
https://github.com/intel/ipu7-camera-bins/blob/20251104_0740_359/lib/firmware/intel/ipu/ipu7ptl_fw.bin
+
+ [ Test Plan ]
+
+ ```
+ # Terminal 1
+ $ sudo dmesg -w
+
+ # Terminal 2
+ $ sudo -E cameraDebug=3 gst-launch-1.0 icamerasrc ! videoconvert !
autovideosink
+ ```
+ Camera video streaming should be available.

+ [ Where problems could occur ]
+
+ Intel ipu7-drivers tag release
+
[20251104_0740_359](https://github.com/intel/ipu7-drivers/releases/tag/20251104_0740_359)
+ introduced a firmware ABI breakage, and to address that,
+
[20251226_1140_191_PTL_PV_IoT](https://github.com/intel/ipu7-drivers/releases/tag/20251226_1140_191_PTL_PV_IoT)
+ tag release breaks the ABI from 20251104_0740_359 again. This means when
+ we're to upgrade kernel driver to 20251226_1140_191_PTL_PV_IoT, the
+ firmware update must be ready at the same time.
+
+ [ Other Info ]
+
+ While the problematic update from bug 2134604 is only affected
+ ipu7-drivers/resolute and therefore affects linux/resolute and linux-
+ oem-6.17/noble, the corresponding firmware update should only be
+ necessary in Resolute and Noble as well.

Recent Intel IPU7 drivers commit
https://github.com/intel/ipu7-drivers/commit/056b1c3da802ed1c5bf6bd123a2382f8d6b68202
("PTL PV release candidate 3 on 2025-11-04") contains work-arounds for a
not-yet-upstreamed firmware change meant for ABI updates for IPU7.5 devices:
```
/**
- * TODO: Revert this change after firmware ABI fixed.
- * This is an internal workaround.
- * IPU7.5 firmware changed its ABI and breaks
- * compatibility with IPU7 Lunar Lake.
- */
+ * TODO: Revert this change after firmware ABI fixed.
+ * This is an internal workaround.
+ * IPU7.5 firmware changed its ABI and breaks
+ * compatibility with IPU7 Lunar Lake.
+ */
```
This cause IPU7 on Intel PTL platforms fails at starting streaming with dmesg
errors:
```
[ 75.466561] intel_ipu7_isys.isys intel_ipu7.isys.40: stream start time out
[ 75.466742] intel_ipu7_isys.isys intel_ipu7.isys.40: 00
IPU_INSYS_RESP_TYPE_STREAM_OPEN_DONE stream 0 pin 0 buf_id 0 frame 0
[ 75.466758] intel_ipu7_isys.isys intel_ipu7.isys.40: error group 1
code 6 details [5 0]
[ 77.514368] intel_ipu7_isys.isys intel_ipu7.isys.40: stream close time out
with error 6
[ 77.514395] intel_ipu7_isys.isys intel_ipu7.isys.40: start stream of
firmware failed
```
The corresponding fw blob to be upstreamed is in
https://github.com/intel/ipu7-camera-bins/blob/20251104_0740_359/lib/firmware/intel/ipu/ipu7ptl_fw.bin
