I guess the code in Dpkg::Vendor::Ubuntu::add_build_flags that consults DEB_HOST_ARCH_VARIANT should consult varianttable (I don't think we added an perl API for this yet?) and if the variable does not describe a variant of DEB_HOST_ARCH either ignore DEB_HOST_ARCH_VARIANT or fail.
