Public bug reported:
escription:
Internal speakers produce no sound on the MSI Cyborg 15 A13VF laptop under
Ubuntu, although the codec is detected correctly and all ALSA controls appear
normal. Headphones and HDMI audio work. Speakers work normally in Windows 11,
so this is not a hardware issue.
This model likely requires a missing EC amplifier quirk for ALC256, similar to
existing MSI GF63/Katana/Sword audio fixes already present in alc256.c.
SYSTEM INFORMATION
Laptop: MSI Cyborg 15 A13VF
BIOS: E15K1IMS.114 (09/10/2024)
Audio Codec: Realtek ALC256
Audio Controller: Intel Raptor Lake-P/U/H cAVS
Intel PCI ID: 8086:51ca
NVIDIA PCI ID: 10de:22be
Ubuntu Version: 24.04
Kernel (Ubuntu OEM): 6.14.0-1019-oem
Mainline kernels tested: 6.18.7
Speakers non-functional on all tested kernels.
WHAT WORKS
HDMI audio
Headphones output
Microphone
Codec detection (card 1: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC256
Analog)
Windows 11 speakers work normally
WHAT FAILS
Internal speakers produce no sound
speaker-test shows playback but no audible output
Port selection correct (analog-output-speaker)
Mixer values correct (Master/Speaker/PCM all unmuted)
No EC amp interface exposed in /sys/devices/platform/*/hda_amp
No kernel quirk for MSI Cyborg A13VF exists in patch_realtek.c
This matches known behavior on MSI laptops where the EC controls the speaker
amplifier, and Linux requires a quirk to enable it.
REPRODUCTION
Boot Ubuntu on MSI Cyborg 15 A13VF
Play audio through internal speakers
No sound output
Headphones and HDMI audio work

REQUEST
Please add a quirk for:
MSI Cyborg 15 A13VF
Intel 8086:51ca (cAVS)
Realtek ALC256 codec
BIOS E15K1IMS.114
Likely requiring the ALC256_FIXUP_MSI_EC pattern used on GF63/Katana
series.
This will enable the EC-controlled speaker amplifier, restoring internal
speaker audio under Ubuntu.
Thank you.
