Public bug reported:

The dirname command provided by uutils (in coreutils-from-uutils) has a
bug in its behavior. Input "/home/user/." returns "/home" instead of
"/home/user". This breaks applications, such as homeshick, which relies
on this behavior to function correctly.

By default, Ubuntu appears to install three different forms of
coreutils: coreutils-from-uutils (which has the bug and is in PATH by
default), gnu-coreutils (which does not have the bug, but all the
executables are renamed), and rust-coreutils (which also has the bug).

This was already fixed upstream in
https://github.com/uutils/coreutils/pull/8911 so the fix needs to be
packaged and deployed by Ubuntu.
