I'm not so sure this is Calamares' fault anymore. After some
experimentation (and wasting a lot of time bisecting unnecessarily), I
discovered that I can build Calamares from git on a Kubuntu 24.04.3 ISO,
install it, then use it to install Kubuntu following the steps outlined
above. This results in a bootable system. The same steps followed on a
Kubuntu Resolute daily ISO fail the way described above. Maybe something
in calamares-settings-ubuntu got messed up.
