We're not married to Totem and certainly not that patch. If it's the only thing in the way then please drop it.

The patch was proposed upstream and rejected in 2012. The upstream maintainer's upstream is that it duplicates the MPRIS functionality to play and pause multimedia content which the app supports. That functionality can be accessed in GNOME's date drop-down menu in the top bar and also in the lock screen. The patch is inappropriate for Debian since it adds translatable strings but Debian doesn't have the convenience of Ubuntu's language packs. A weakness of the patch is that the actions are static. A Play action is always shown even if no video is selected or if the app isn't running. - Notably, it has been announced that Ubuntu Desktop 24.04 LTS wants to + Notably, it has been announced that Ubuntu Desktop 26.04 LTS wants to switch from Totem to Showtime for the default video player app. Showtime also supports MPRIS and does not have quicklist actions.
