Public bug reported:

Summary: Segmentation fault in libva-wayland.so.2 during vaInitialize on
Intel HD 520 (Skylake) after Mesa 25.2.8 / libdrm 2.4.125 update.

Description: Since the update performed on 2026-01-29, all video-related
applications using VA-API (libva) crash immediately with a Segmentation
Fault when running on a Wayland session.

Hardware:

System: Lenovo IdeaCentre AIO 510S-23ISU

CPU/GPU: Intel Core i5-6200U / Intel HD Graphics 520 (Skylake)

Software & Packages: The issue appeared after upgrading the following
packages:

libdrm2 (from 2.4.122 to 2.4.125)

libgl1-mesa-dri (from 25.0.7 to 25.2.8)

libva2 (1.20.0)

Steps to Reproduce:

Log into a Wayland session (KDE Plasma/Kubuntu 24.04).

Run vainfo in the terminal or launch any application using libmpv/VA-
API.

The process terminates with "Segmentation fault (core dumped)".

Technical Details: The stack trace points to an invalid memory access in
libva-wayland.so.2 during the initialization phase: #0
0x00007c8a66ab9f1f n/a (libva-wayland.so.2 + 0x2f1f) #1
0x00007c8a654a129e vaInitialize (libva.so.2 + 0x429e)

Additional Notes:

The issue does not occur in X11 sessions.

The issue does not occur on hardware with dedicated NVIDIA graphics
using proprietary drivers.

Switching between i965-va-driver and intel-media-va-driver does not
resolve the crash on Wayland.
