Public bug reported:
Hello All,
Ubuntu Release: 24.04.3 LTS
Linux Version: 6.14.0-37-generic
Current Firefox Installation version: Snap 147.0.3-1
Source Package (as per the latest crash log): gnome-shell 46.0-0ubuntu6-24-04-13
Expectation: Firefox opens the previous session without freezing the GUI or
causing the session to crash.
What happens instead:
After I upgraded to Firefox 147, the GUI crashed (with a SIGTRAP error in the
crash logs) or froze every time I launched Firefox and opened the last session
(through Session Tab Manager) I've also tried opening Firefox and launching
the sites from the previous session by copying the URLs from the session-JSON
file and pasting each URL into a new tab. The session crashes or the GUI
freezes after around 6 to 7 tabs are opened. I reproduced this same effect
(crashing when the entirety of the previous session is loaded) with Firefox 147
from Snap, Flatpak, and the Mozilla repository, as well as through Librewolf.
I've also tried uninstalling GDM3 and reinstalling, switching the GPU from the
environment standard to the passthrough GPU when Firefox is launched (I have
two GPUs in the effected PC), and switching from Wayland to Xorg during session
login. Launching Firefox always produces a freeze or a SIGTRAP crash of the
whole session no matter the aforementioned attempts to fix the issue.
Currently, I'm using Chromium as I cannot get Firefox to function. Note that
Chromium has shown the same crashing behavior once before.
I've attached the latest log from /var/crash. This crash occurred with
the Snap 147.0.3-1 version of Firefox.
