Public bug reported:
I was shutting down my Ubuntu 25.10 as usual using the upper right icon to do a
power off.
Instead of powering off the entire screen went to the Ubuntu
distribution purple colour, a Tux Ascii penguin motif and in big white
text a message was displayed which I think said ... "Kernel Panic.....
trying to delete Init process!" or words to that effect, with another
line below that showing an hex error code.
I thought at first I had a virus or something, so I rebooted and then
shutdown as usual not finding anything suspicious.
Unfortunately I didn't get to take a photo of the screen as the time.
I just did a quick search of the kernel source code to see if I can find
anything that matches up...
"kernel/exit.c" - line 920 appears to be the line that caused the error message
--->
panic("Attempted to kill init! exitcode=0x%08x\n",
tsk->signal->group_exit_code ?: (int)code);
and "drivers/gpu/drm/drm_panic.c" seems to be the code that displayed
the full screen error with the penguin motif.
This may be a more severe incidence of the other shutdown hang up Bug
#2132294 I posted not long ago.
A bit more info about my system...
