Public bug reported:

I would like to see the accent colour used more consistently on the
desktop. Less in some places and more in others.

I propose the accent colour should only be used in ephemeral selections,
including:

 - Selected menu items
 - Selected text
 - Rubber band selections
 - Focus rings showing where keyboard input will go

and not in:

 - Button backgrounds
 - Static or animated images

Furthermore, the accent colour should never be diluted or modified (like
in GTK4 text selections).

The aim is that users should develop a clearer mental model of what the
accent colour means, regardless of where it appears. And certainly we
should be aiming to eliminate the use of grey as a highlight or
selection colour (unless grey actually becomes one of the available
accent colours).
