Public bug reported:
When the snd-dice driver loads automatically during system boot with a
Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 (DICE III model, serial PF6301039688) connected
via Firewire, the system completely freezes (no mouse, no keyboard, hard
reset required).
However, if the driver is blacklisted at boot and manually loaded with
"sudo modprobe snd-dice" after the system is fully running and the
interface is powered on, it works perfectly. Audio playback and
recording function normally, and the device is recognized by ALSA.
This is a race condition or initialization order issue between
firewire_ohci and snd-dice.
System: Ubuntu Studio 25.10
Kernel: 6.17.0-14-generic
Motherboard: HP with (pon el chipset Firewire, ejecuta: lspci | grep Firewire)
** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
