This was a good hint! I've been tinkering around a bit, and found this
workaround:

Adding this to /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ubuntu.sources

```
Types: deb
URIs: http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/
Suites: plucky-security
Components: restricted
Signed-By: /usr/share/keyrings/ubuntu-archive-keyring.gpg
```

and installing `nvidia-firmware-570-server-570.195.03` gave me the external
monitor back.
