Public bug reported:

I have System Monitor (gnome-system-monitor) opened all the time and I don't
power off my computer regularly. After keeping System Monitor opened for a
couple of days, I can see significant drop in Memory (RAM) when only closing
and opening the System Monitor. Nothing else.
The first time I noticed and tried this, the RAM usage dropped by ~7GB. Now I
close and open System Monitor approximately once a week and the RAM usage
instantly drops for about 1.5GB.
I expect that having System Monitor opened shouldn't eat away RAM. I would
expect it allocates a small portion of RAM and overwrites it constantly.
