Public bug reported:
On Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (kernel 6.17.0-14-generic), the built-in USB UVC webcam is
detected
correctly by the kernel, but cannot be used by applications.
Hardware:
- Laptop: ZED Air CX3
- Webcam: Genesys Logic USB2.0 UVC PC Camera (05e3:0503)
Observations:
- /dev/video0 exists
- uvcvideo driver is loaded
- lsusb correctly lists the webcam
- Webcam works correctly in Windows 10
However, WirePlumber / PipeWire logs show:
"PipeWire's libcamera SPA missing or broken. libcamera not supported."
Due to this, applications using PipeWire (browser, portals, camera apps)
cannot access the webcam or show a black screen.
This appears to be a regression in the PipeWire / libcamera integration
on Ubuntu 24.04, as the hardware and kernel driver are functioning correctly.
