I ran into a regression in xdg-desktop-portal when I upgraded from 1.20.3+ds-1ubuntu2 to 1.21.0+ds-1ubuntu3.
You can have a read of bug 2142255. I am currently running 1.20.3+ds-1ubuntu2 and it works.
