The cloud-initramfs-rooturl supports booting with tarballs and squashfs:
root=tar:http://<url>
root=http://<url>.tar.??
root=http://<url>.t?z
root=squash:http://<url>
root=http://<url>.squash
root=http://<url>.squashfs
cloud-initramfs-tools 0.51 added Dracut support by using the livenet
module, but this module only supports squashfs with the syntax:
root=http://<url>.tar.??
root=http://<url>.t?z
Please grant the FFe for adding support for booting with tarballs to
support all variants.
