There seem to still be issues when using the external gpg with Thunderbird.
I'm using snap version 995, and Thunderbird tries to execute '/usr/bin/gpg' which is not available from the snap. I had to change the 'mail.openpgp.alternative_gpg_path' setting to '/snap/thunderbird/995/usr/bin/gpg' to make it work.
