Public bug reported:

fresh install of lubuntu: run sudo apt update and "Some sources can be
modernized. Run 'apt modernize-sources' to do so." doing so causes "Malformed
entry in sources file..." I am a relative newbie (about a year) I have
installed and used 7 linux distros and this is the first time I've seen this
happen. I've reproduced it twice on the same pc. The first time I got so turned
around trying to solve the problem (I had not made a backup) that I ended up
reinstalling lubuntu. I thought the circumstances were different the second
time and it might be safe. However, I made a backup which I had to use. Now
when I enter sudo apt update in terminal it will output the following:
Ign:1 cdrom://Lubuntu 25.10 _Questing Quokka_ - Release amd64 (20251007)
questing InRelease
Hit:2 cdrom://Lubuntu 25.10 _Questing Quokka_ - Release amd64 (20251007)
questing Release
Hit:4 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu questing-security InRelease
Hit:5 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu questing InRelease
Hit:6 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu questing-updates InRelease
Hit:7 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu questing-backports InRelease
All packages are up to date.
Notice: Some sources can be modernized. Run 'apt modernize-sources' to do so.
NEVER AGAIN WILL I DO THAT! Honestly, I don't know what it means, but it has
cost me about 3 hours now. Once burned, twice shy.
