I restored my system from a hibernate, and for some reason the DNS
partially¹ failed. This has not occurred before but isn't the main
issue.
I was already logged into the system and the login screen appeared.
After logging back in the screen stopped working altogether. No black
screen, no signal at all. The monitor finally timing out and switching
itself off.
I took a wild guess that the problem was related to DNS, as these insane
issues have shown up in the distant past. I dropped the Wireguard link
and everything sprung back to life.
My display manager should not fail because DNS is down. Absolutely
ludicrous.
I restored the WG link without any issues.
I have no idea where to even start looking to debug. syslog, xerrors and
the journal for systemd-resolved show no errors reported at all. I'm at
a complete loss as to why this should happen. What if my Internet
connection was down?
¹ ping (to hostnames) failed, dig worked, curl worked. After flushing the DNS
cache, only dig worked.
