Here is a smaller / lighter reproducer:

$ sudo mount -t iso9660 -r ~/Downloads/resolute-desktop-amd64.iso ~/tmp/mnt/1
$ sudo mount -r ~/tmp/mnt/1/casper/minimal.standard.squashfs ~/tmp/mnt/2/
$ cat ~/tmp/mnt/2/usr/share/synaptic/gtkbuilder/window_main.ui >/dev/null
cat:
/home/[email protected]/tmp/mnt/2/usr/share/synaptic/gtkbuilder/window_main.ui:
 Input/output error (os error 5)
$ sudo unsquashfs -d target ~/tmp/mnt/1/casper/minimal.standard.squashfs
usr/share/synaptic/gtkbuilder/window_main.ui
Parallel unsquashfs: Using 24 processors
1 inodes (2 blocks) to write

xz uncompress failed with error code 7

xz uncompress failed with error code 10

FATAL ERROR: writer: failed to read/uncompress file
target/usr/share/synaptic/gtkbuilder/window_main.ui

This is all pretty strange. Why is this file in particular getting mangled?
