Public bug reported:
1. Context:
I just upgraded my system to Ubuntu Resolute; everything is up to date, and I'm
running Ubuntu MATE 26.04.
I've rebooted, and apt shows everything is installed. Double checked: "apt
install mate-desktop" and everything is there.
2. Symptom:
GTK applications (gedit, evince, gimp ...) take about 50 seconds to
start. They hang, nothing happens, then they eventually load. This is
some kind of DBUS timeout.
Firefox, Thunderbird, xclock, kwrite all start normally within a second
or so.
3. Workaround: manually run /usr/libexec/xdg-desktop-portal in
another terminal, and the application starts instantly.
4. Systemctl:
$ systemctl --user status xdg-desktop-portal
○ xdg-desktop-portal.service - Portal service
Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/user/xdg-desktop-portal.service; static)
Active: inactive (dead)
Dependency failed for xdg-desktop-portal.service - Portal service.
xdg-desktop-portal.service: Job xdg-desktop-portal.service/start failed with
result 'dependency'.
5. This is weird, because:
$ systemctl list-dependencies xdg-desktop-portal.service
xdg-desktop-portal.service
i.e. it doesn't have any dependencies.
At this point, I can't debug any further. Help!
