Not sure if it's related, but this morning when I came into my office I
heard my PC fans spinning at high speed, so without touching anything I
ssh'd in and saw that plasmashell and kwin_wayland were using most of a
CPU core each. I switched on my power strip and the monitors stayed off
as before. Killing kscreenlocker_greet via ssh got me a login prompt,
but the spinning of the two processes didn't stop until I had
successfully entered my password and unlocked the session.

FWIW in this case Thunderbird hadn't crashed.
