Ubuntu 24.04: Kernel 6.17.0-19-generic + Nvidia 580 driver causes hard
lock (black screen with static cursor, no TTYs)

- Kernel 6.17.0-19-generic + linux-modules-nvidia-580-6.17.0-19-generic
installed correctly (ii status)
- Boot hangs early: nvidia-persistenced fails (no /dev/nvidia*), GDM display
errors, then total lockup
- DKMS status shows "installed" with warnings, but modules missing from
expected paths
- Purged kernel to restore functionality
