Public bug reported:
Ptyxis dock icon shows a persistent badge count of 3 that cannot be
cleared. The badge appeared after three Ptyxis sessions were terminated
abruptly by systemd-logind restarts, and survives clean reboots.
This was triaged upstream with the Ptyxis maintainer, who confirmed
Ptyxis only sends standard GNotification calls and directed this report
downstream to Ubuntu.
Steps to reproduce:
Open Ptyxis and run a sudo script that calls sudo systemctl restart
systemd-logind
The logind restart terminates the desktop session abruptly, killing the
Ptyxis session mid-execution
Log back in and repeat twice more (three total abrupt terminations)
A badge showing '3' appears on the Ptyxis dock icon
Expected behaviour: No badge, or a badge that clears on clean reboot.
Actual behaviour: Badge showing '3' persists across clean reboots and
cannot be cleared by any means found.
Investigation:
No active ptyxis-spawn-*.scope systemd units that could explain the count
No session state files in ~/.local/share/org.gnome.Ptyxis/ or
~/.local/state/org.gnome.Ptyxis/
No gsettings keys storing a count value
Badge count corresponds exactly to the number of sessions terminated
abruptly
Upstream Ptyxis maintainer confirms Ptyxis only uses standard GNotification
— the badge rendering/counting is handled by ubuntu-dock
