Public bug reported:
Following the update of libfreerdp3-3, libfreerdp-server3-3, and
libwinpr3-3 from version 3.5.1+dfsg1-0ubuntu1.2 to
3.5.1+dfsg1-0ubuntu1.4, the "Remote Login" (headless) feature in GNOME
fails during the session handover.
Initial NLA authentication succeeds, and the system prepares the virtual
Wayland session. However, when the server sends the redirection/handover
token to the Windows client, the connection is immediately severed.
During the failure, the daemon logs the following:
[RDP] Sending server redirection
[RDP] Network or intentional disconnect, stopping session
[DaemonSystem] RDP client disconnected during the handover
On the Windows client side, the user receives Error code: 0x904 or
Extended error: 0x0
Downgrading the following packages to 3.5.1+dfsg1-0ubuntu1.2 restores
full functionality:
- libfreerdp3-3
- libfreerdp-server3-3
- libfreerdp-client3-3
- libwinpr3-3
Steps to Reproduce:
- Enable "Remote Login" in Ubuntu 24.04 Settings (System-level, not
User-level Sharing).
- Ensure libfreerdp3-3 is at version 0ubuntu1.4.
- Attempt to connect from a Windows 10/11 machine using the system-level
credentials.
- Observe the connection drop immediately after the "Configuring remote
session" stage in Windows.
Environment:
- OS: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (Noble Numbat)
- Service gnome-remote-desktop (System-level Remote Login)
- Client: Windows 10/11 build-in RDP (MSTSC) && Remmina v1.4.35
- Arch: x86_64 (Tested with NVIDIA and AMD
Looking into Github repository of FreeRDP issue#12489 seems to be linked
to the same error, and appears to be fixed in Release 3.24.1
