Tested on Jammy, everything appears to work as intended:

ubuntu@cortez:~$ sudo add-apt-repository -p proposed

ubuntu@cortez:~$ sudo apt install ubuntu-drivers-common
[ ... ]
ubuntu@cortez:~$ ubuntu-drivers install
Error: 'ubuntu-drivers install' must be run as root. Try using 'sudo'.
ubuntu@cortez:~$ ubuntu-drivers install --gpgpu
Error: 'ubuntu-drivers install' must be run as root. Try using 'sudo'.
ubuntu@cortez:~$ sudo ubuntu-drivers install 
ERROR:root:aplay command not found

Building dependency tree... Done
Reading state information... Done
