Hi Peter,

Thank you for reporting this. You are correct that on Ubuntu the package
is named `firmware-sof-signed` rather than `sof-firmware`.

However, `sof-firmware` is the official upstream name used by the Sound
Open Firmware project, and the majority of Linux distributions (such as
Arch, openSUSE, Alpine, etc.) package it under that exact name. The
message in the kernel is printed by the SOF driver in sound/soc/sof/fw-
file-profile.c, and it references this upstream project name. Debian and
Ubuntu happen to use a different name for historical packaging reasons.

Carrying an ongoing Ubuntu-specific delta in the kernel just to change
this dev_info string creates unnecessary maintenance overhead.
Therefore, the Ubuntu kernel team prefers to keep the upstream message
as-is.

If you feel the message should be more distro-agnostic (for example,
"Check if you have the SOF firmware installed"), you could report this
upstream at https://github.com/thesofproject/linux/issues. If upstream
adopts a generic message, Ubuntu will naturally pick it up in a future
kernel release.

I am marking this bug as 'Won't Fix' for the Ubuntu kernel package for
now. Thanks again for your understanding!
