Further testing using a live USB environment reproduces the same shutdown behaviour around ~80 % battery. This indicates the issue is hardware-related rather than kernel-specific. I sent the machine in for repairs and the battery module was diagnosed as needing replacement. It has been returned and the problem seemingly has been resolved.
