Public bug reported: This commit in Salsa adds DNS telemetry to PHP. This means the DNS protocol is used to phone home and send version information, so updates can be advertised. https://salsa.debian.org/php-team/php/-/commit/34c857099732413c3220368646adab9dd65b7342
In the deb.sury.org branch, the Debian maintainer is setting the remote address to their personal servers, so they can serve this feature to people who consume it from their PPA. https://salsa.debian.org/php-team/php-defaults/-/blob/deb.sury.org/main/php-common.mk This is already applied and live, as seen in https://codeberg.org/oerdnj/deb.sury.org/issues/76 The telemetry related code is not enabled by default in builds. This has not landed in Debian yet, and we are not sure how it will be integrated into the distro at all. On the Ubuntu side, we believe the logic should be removed. ** Affects: php8.5 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Renan Rodrigo (rr) Status: In Progress ** Changed in: php8.5 (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Renan Rodrigo (rr) ** Changed in: php8.5 (Ubuntu) Status: New => In Progress -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2147444 Title: DNS telemetry should be removed in Ubuntu builds To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/php8.5/+bug/2147444/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
