Public bug reported:
The Ubuntu Server installer fails to complete the installation on a
Lenovo ST50 V3 server when a RAID 1 configuration is created via the
BIOS (Intel VROC/RST). This issue is persistent across multiple point
releases of Ubuntu 24.04.
Hardware Environment:
- System: Lenovo ST50 V3
- Storage Controller: Intel VROC / Intel RST (BIOS RAID Mode)
- Storage Configuration: 2x Drives configured as RAID 1 in BIOS (RAID Mode)
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Enter BIOS and set storage controller to "RAID Mode".
2. Create a RAID 1 volume using the onboard Intel VROC/RST interface.
3. Fresh install the system using Ubuntu Server 24.04.4 installation media.
4. The installation fails with an "An error occurred" screen.
5. See attached full report logs for details (captured via "View full report").
Actual Result:
- The installer fails and cannot complete the installation.
Expected Result:
- Ubuntu Server should install successfully on a RAID 1 array configured via
BIOS RAID.
Additional Information:
- The issue is reproducible on Ubuntu 24.04, 24.04.2, 24.04.3 and 24.04.4.
- Installation succeeds on the same system when the drives are configured as
RAID 0 using BIOS RAID mode.
