It's been so long since I looked at this, I don't remember for sure, but I think there are actually 3 upstart files that need to pinned at the edgy level. I used aptitude to downgrade, so whenever I pinned one, the other two were downgraded automatically. But, you may want to make sure all three are being downgraded. Don't know if that could be the problem.
