Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Version: 26.04, wireguard-tools, most current version
(2026-05-05)

after creating a net interface called wg0 using "ip link add ..." and
setting up ipv4 address, executing

sudo bash -c 'wg set wg0 listen-port 60000 private-key privatekey'

resulting in:

fopen: Permission denied

failure.

It happens on server and desktop version of the said version above. This
does not happen on proxmox upgraded to linux 7.0.x. Therefore it is
suspected to be associated with file access problem of wg program.

** Affects: wireguard (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
